Memory Project Speakers Bureau Visits Royal Canadian Legion In North Bay
North Bay - June 6 - The Memory Project Speakers Bureau has hosted a volunteer recruitment event at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 023 North Bay. CFB Personnel, veterans, local community members, and program supporters came together to share their stories of service and sacrifice.
“North Bay is home to a proud military community and we are thrilled to be here today on the 68th anniversary of D-Day,” said Brigitte d’Auzac de Lamartinie, Senior Manager of Programming at The Historica-Dominion Institute. “We are actively recruiting currently-serving Canadian Forces personnel and veterans to join our community of volunteers. We seek to offer representation from all Canadian tours and conflicts so the next generation of Canadians can continue to learn about our rich military legacy.”
The largest Bureau of its kind in Canada, The Memory Project connects veterans and currently serving soldiers with classrooms and community groups across the country. 1,500 veteran volunteers represent a wide range of Canadian conflicts and tours from the Second World War to the Korean War to Peacekeeping operations and Afghanistan.
The Memory Project Speakers Bureau coordinates 1000 speaking engagements each year, reaching over 170,000 young Canadians. The Bureau has reached over 1.3 million students since its creation in 2001. The Memory Project Speakers Bureau is funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs Community Engagement Partnership Fund as well as Canadian Heritage's Canadian Studies Program.
