The Memory Project RoadShow Goes National!
The Memory Project Roadshow launches in December 2005 with a series of national digitization events ending in March 2006, at which time 150 veteran profiles including audio testimony and artifacts will be uploaded to the Memory Project Digital Archive website (www.thememoryproject.com). This phase of the Roadshow has been funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage as part of the Gift for Her Majesty the Queen during the 2005 Royal Visit.
Students and educators in Vancouver, BC; Winnipeg, MB; Montreal, QC; Toronto, ON; Halifax, NS will work with Dominion Institute staff to record the stories of service and sacrifice of Canadian veterans, and the images will also be made available to the public at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.
The Memory Project Roadshow began as a legacy project sponsored by the Province of Ontario. Its aim was to bring together veterans, youth, archivists, historians and community members to digitize the oral histories and personal memorabilia of 500 veterans living in Ontario. The tour visited the cities of Toronto, Hamilton, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Windsor, London, Kingston and Ottawa.
The Memory Project is the Dominion Institute’s flagship programme which connects veterans and students online and in classrooms across the country. The complementary Memory Project Digital Archive houses the oral histories and artefacts of over 350 Canadian veterans. |
