Greetings, my name is Jean Marc Lavictoire. I have served Canada and her citizens for 40 years. For those who, as I did, hated math in high school, you are wondering how did this 12 year old get invited to this session? I had grown up in Chibougamau, Quebec located about 100km south of Hudson's Bay or a 12 hour drive north of Toronto. Either way you look at it, you have to come to the conclusion that Chibougamau was in the sticks! At the tender age of 17, I enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Regular Component and waited for the call to report for basic training in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. My thoughts during this period were: "Stay in Chibougamau, eventually be old enough to legally get into the local tavern, work in the mines or the sawmill" or "travel the world by joining the CAF." At the age of 18 years and two weeks, I was standing on the frozen streets of Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. I would love to share my personal experiences and the lessons taught with your audience.

The Memory Project includes a community of over 1,500 veterans and Canadian Forces members who are committed to sharing their stories of service.
