The Memory Project
Veteran Appreciation Days
This summer, Second World War, Korean War, Peacekeeping and Canadian Forces veterans will be honoured for their sacrifices and their ongoing work in the community. Through the Memory Project, the Dominion Institute is organizing 10 Veteran Appreciation Days across Ontario where veterans will join local youth and community members at local cenotaphs and legion branches. A reception and information session will also be held to explore ways that veterans can share their experiences with young people.
The Memory Project is the Dominion Institute’s flagship programme which connects veterans and students online and in classrooms across the country. The Memory Project Speakers’ Bureau includes more than 1,500 veteran volunteers who have reached nearly 500,000 young people since 2001. The Memory Project Digital Archive, an online database that houses the oral histories and artifacts of over 1000 Canadian veterans, complements the Speakers’ Bureau. Visit www.thememoryproject.com
The Dominion Institute was founded in 1997 and has focused its efforts on conducting original research into Canadians' knowledge of the country's past and building innovative programs - such as The Memory Project - that broaden appreciation of the richness and complexity of the Canadian story.
