LCdr Peter Antonew

Lieutenant-Commander (LCdr) Peter Antonew, a native of Toronto, Ontario was an active Navy League and Sea Cadet during his youth. He enrolled in the Naval Reserve in 1985 at HMCS YORK. LCdr Antonew transferred to the Cadet Instructors List in 1986. In 1987, LCdr Antonew joined the Regular Force. He served in a number of ships on the West Coast and received his Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate in 1989. He was then posted to HMCS QU’APPELLE where he was the Shipborne Air Controller and was part of the decommissioning crew. A shore posting followed to Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre (CFRC) Toronto as LCdr Antonew was employed as a Military Career Counsellor. In 1995, he assumed the position of Deck Officer in HMCS REGINA, during which time he deployed to the Persian Gulf as part of OP PREVENTION. In August 1997, LCdr Antonew was posted to HMCS PREVOST and was appointed Executive Officer. LCdr Antonew was posted to CFRC Det London in July 2000 where he was once again employed as a Military Career Counsellor. He completed the Operations Room Officer Course in 2003 and then completed a tour onboard HMCS ST. JOHN’S as the Ship’s Combat Officer. After spending a year at the Operations School in Halifax he was posted to the Canadian Forces Joint Headquarters in Kingston. During this posting, LCdr Antonew deployed to Afghanistan as part of Op ATHENA. LCdr Antonew was promoted to his present rank in July 2007 and assumed the position of CO CFRC Hamilton. He was posted to CFRG HQ in July 2010 as the Production and Selection Officer. During his time in Borden he successfully completed the Joint Command and Staff Programme and received his Bachelor of Military Arts and Science degree. He assumed Command of CFRC Southern Ontario in July 2017. LCdr Antonew lives with his wife Sharon Kiley and together they share four children, Ryan, Sarah, Tyler and Melissa.
