I enrolled in the Army Reserves in 2008 as an Officer Cadet and then joined the Reg Force full-time into the RCAF as a Pilot in 2013. My first posting was to 440 Squadron in Yellowknife in 2016 where I flew the CC-138 Twin Otter to over 30 destinations throughout the North within one year. I went as far West as Whitehorse, as far East as Iqaluit and as far North as Alert. I deployed on two domestic operations which were Op NANOOK 16 to Rankin Inlet, NU and Op NUNALIVUT 17 in Hall Beach, NU. After a year of flying all throughout the North, I then began to deal with some health issues and I was grounded from flying. During this time I worked through some of these challenges and also worked a desk job. I was then posted as a Plans Officer to the Joint Task Force North Headquarters in Yellowknife for one year where I got to Plan Op NANOOK-NUNAKPUT 19, a presence and surveillance operation of the Northwest Passage. As of this summer, I was posted to 17 Operational Support Squadron at CFB Winnipeg to work as a Plans Officer. My hope in the very near future is to return to flying. The highlight of my career so far has been the fabulous sites and communities throughout the "True North" I got to visit and fly into as a Twin Otter Pilot. The topics I would like to speak on are life as a CAF Pilot, flying throughout the North, living in and working in an isolated posting, and being resilient in the midst of health challenges and difficult circumstances.
